The Perfect Fit: Finding the Right Box For Your Product

It doesn’t matter what you’re shipping, we understand that finding the right shape, size and type of box is just as important as the custom design we can create for you. But if you’re at a loss as to which box you should use, don’t panic. Custom Boxes Now offers every option imaginable—and if you don’t see it, we can create it. Let us take the guesswork out of custom shipping box shapes.

Keep It Simple: Familiar, Basic Container Box Options
First up, there’s the regular slotted container, which is probably what comes to mind when you think of a traditional shipping box. With the right packing materials, they can be used to ship almost anything, and they generally require tape to seal. Still, we recommend that if it’s possible to use a smaller size box, go for it. Cut out unnecessary bulk. In another common box style, the Full Overlap Container (FOL),  each flap folds over the other. This is ideal for extra heavy items, especially since these won’t bend as easily.

Next Steps: Take Your Packaging To The Next Level
There are a variety of custom shipping box shapes, and which one is the best fit for you depends on what’s inside. A One Panel Folder requires tape and is used for smaller, flat and often individual items, like books, stationary and picture frames. The C-Series, despite sounding like the latest offering from Mercedes, is in fact a self-locking box whose parts all fold cleanly into one another, making it a popular choice among companies that want to look ultra-chic. Ideal for flat but bulkier objects that need to allow room for some packing material, keep in mind that the C-Series often requires tooling, and the cost depends on the size of the box you order. The Tray and Cover is a bit like a shoebox (but unlike a shoebox, it is made out of corrugated), and is ideal for shipping clothing, small tools and food items that need to be sealed securely from all angles. Remember that in order to properly put these boxes together, glue or staples are usually required.

The C-Series box style is popular with online sellers who want to make a memorable unboxing experience for their customers.

Other Options: For Those Special Shipping Cases
If you’re concerned about breakage, or just want to add some extra padding to your shipping boxes, we recommend picking up a few corrugated pads. These are also ideal for when you’re shipping multiple items in one box, as they can be used as dividers. And, if you’re shipping in the short-term and mainly delivering items within the neighborhood, like wine or other products that customers will pop right out of the box upon delivery, we suggest using Half-Slotted Containers, which come with an open top. Don’t forget, however, to properly seal the bottom of the box to avoid any disasters.
